Happy tears

Yesterday on the way home from our radiation appointment at the hospital we stopped at the new Homeland (again). This store is great!

Water had started tasting bad to Joanna so we wanted to see if she likes the drops Morgan likes for water. And, “skillet steak” sounded good. So we ventured in looking for flavored water drops and some juice and thinly sliced beef.

We found everything we were looking for, and then at the checkout the lady in front of us, with just one item asked if the basket was everything we were getting. After we said yes she asked “Can I bless you by buying that for you today?”

While we didn’t “need” her to buy our almost $30 of drink stuff and meat, having her offer was really touching.

After thanking her we encouraged her to take a look inside the basket, sometimes things really add up ๐Ÿ™‚ She assured us she wanted to get it all, and then even asked Joanna if there was anything else she wanted. It really was a sweet interaction.

Instead of staring at us, or randomly shouting “God bless you”, or loudly praying while our immunocompromised kiddo is concerned the person is standing too close, as others have done, she reached out in a practical way. It was touching.

I don’t know if it was Joanna’s bald head, the date stickers still on our shirts from the hospital, or something else that motivated her. But it brought some happy tears to our eyes

So, Melody our fellow Homeland shopper, thank you! I can’t imagine you ever seeing this post, but stranger things have happened.
